Golden Sovereigns...

King Edward VII

Growing up in England I knew what a Sovereign was I even owned a couple  myself  living there. At that time they were worth One Pound. If  I would have held on to them they would be quite valuable today.

This week I came across  a couple of relatives (by marriage) on my Family Tree who were given 2 bags of these. I liked their story and loved their pictures so decided to give them a mention.

What a very nice gift.  It does not mention how many coins were in each purse my imagination  got a little creative, I checked out Google images and this is what I found...

 This many?  Probably not...

This Many? Not enough!

I decided after 50 years of marriage and ten children  that they  deserved at  least 50 each.

Today's market value on 100 King Edward VII Sovereigns would be a cool Three Thousand  Five  Hundred and Forty Seven Dollars.

William Mitchell 1836-1917
Jessie McDonald 1839-1925
