Sad But True…

John Edwards...

Inquest John  Edwards Jenolan Caves

( Number 7 on Coroners inquiry List}

John was the son of my 2nd Great Grandfather Richard Edwards and my 2nd Great Grandmother Eliza Spain. He Emigrated to Australia with his parents in the 1880’s.

My Great Grand Uncle.

I don’t know a lot about John only that he did marry Alice Lavinia Adams in Australia in 1903 and they had 3 children.

In 1909 he died from injuries received from falling off a precipice in the Jenolan Caves.

The Jenolan Caves are remarkable caves in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, Australia; 175 kilometres west of Sydney. They are the most celebrated of several similar groups in the limestone of the country being the oldest discovered open caves in the world[1][2]. They include numerous Silurian marine fossils of great interest and the calcite formations, sometimes pure white, are of extraordinary beauty. The cave network is enormous - over 40 km of multi-level passages - still undergoing active exploration. Several kilometres of the caves have been rendered easily accessible to paying visitors and are well lit.

The above link well worth watching.

An amazing place but… as I get claustrophobia very easily I am afraid I could not enter them myself.

How sad for him to lose his life this way. I've been to the Jenolan Caves, they are truly spectacular and a magical place for children too.
