Remember....

On November the 11th many countries honor those who served and those whoe died in War.    I vividly recall from my early childhood the importance of remembering those who fought and those who died for our freedom.  I learned the famous poem by John McCrea.Poppies new  flanders%20fields 2

Red poppies were sold everywhere and we would proudly wear them to school pinned on our lapel.

I see Canada has come up with a very popular version for schools this year. The Sticker Poppy.cgy-poppiespoppylabelonshirt-250Much better idea (no pins to poke yourself or anyone else)

I hope we will all pause and remember all those in the past and those right now in the present who are fighting for freedom.

I have a special person in my family who I consider a Hero for his service in the second World War.   Thank You to my Uncle  Edward Greer Begg of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders for his valiant service in the second World War.  How he was able to survive the Japanese Concentration Camp is a Miracle to me.Edward Greer Begg

This is Remembrance Day here too in Australia, a day to pause and reflect on the futility of war.

Love your blog. I learn so many things form it.On Regis and Kelly this morning they were pining poppies to their lapels, and I remember as a little girl we always wore poppies.

Funny thing I never thought of my dad as a Hero but you are right he was so brave to escape from those camps not once but 3 time and live to tell the tale, imagine if he hadn't there never would have been me????
We in NZ celebrate ANZAC day 25th April being the commemoration of the return of the Australian and NZ troops. We still have Poppy selling here the week before Anzac day, they used to be made by the return service men but not sure that is still the case.
Thank you Barbara for your devotion to your site.
